GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
July 12, 1991, 12:00 noon
Library Board Room
Present: Nancy Snead (presiding), Mary Beth Huba, Morton King,
Pat Ball, Tomi Spence, Robert Horick, Mary Pat McLaughlin, Judi
Shanklin (arrived late).
Absent: Jean Marie Mendez, Amelia Washington.
The meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m.
Robert Horick moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be
approved, Morton King seconded. The minutes were approved
unanimously.
A $40,000 CD has come due, and has been placed in a Money Market
account pending the Board's decision on its distribution. After
discussion, Tomi Spence moved that $20,000 remain in the Money Market
account for easy access, and that the remaining $20,000 + $1,600
interest be placed in a 12 month CD. Pat Ball seconded the motion,
which passed unanimously.
Discussion was held on the need to replace the existing security
system. As the current system is virtually inoperative and cannot be
repaired, it was the consensus of the Board that a new system must be
purchased and installed as soon as possible. Mary Pat will continue
to communicate with 3M and, as necessary, City officials to resolve
this problem.
Judi Shanklin arrived.
Mary Pat asked the Board to approve the expenditure of $525.00
of gift funds on the large print and audio tape collections. Robert
Horick made a motion in favor of the expenditure, which was seconded
by Mary Beth Huba. The motion passed unanimously.
On the subject of library cards for City employees, Morton King
made the following motion: "Whereas the request from City employees
would not benefit all employees of the city equally, the Board votes
to deny the request." Judi Shanklin seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.
Mary Pat discussed her plans for the Library budget, and said
she would be sending a detailed list to Board members before the
budget is submitted to the City. She asked the Board to be prepared
to make suggestions or ask questions at that time.
The meeting adjourned at 1: 10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jere-„
