Richsrte T OS CANTU, GI S Dear Diary Pat McLaughlin, September 22, 1995 HUGS for Kids, a parent education program of Georgetown 1Sd, would like to offer our parenting classes at the Georgetown Public Library during the '95-93 school year. It was discovered last year that offering the classes at various elementary campuses became confusing for the parents. Also, it is sometimes difficult to find a location at the schools that is available for use, during the school day. you know, HUGS for Kids enables parents to explore positive parenting techniques, form 16pportive networks in the community, and find solutions to challenges they may be fading in the home. It is imperative to the future of Georgetown that we support and assist parents in raising their children. This means conveniently offering parenting workshops throughout the year, at various times during the day. The Georgetown library is centrally located, encourages reading in the home, and has the facilities to accommodate our participants. Please consider waiving the policy which restricts groups from using the meeting room more than once per month, 11e try to offer a various number of topics during each month and hold classes during the school day and at night to accommodate parents. Furthermore, we would like you to consider waiving the rental fee so we can continua offering the classes free of charge. schedule of our classes is enclosed. Please feel free to call me if your have any questions 83- 9. I look forward to forming a working partnership with you, to better serve the families of Georgetown. Sincerely, 6"t Alma Guzman HUGS for Kids coordinator SPANISH SESSION: September 25 10:00 - 11:30 October 2 10:00 - 11:30 October 16 10:00 - 11:30 OC40ber 30 WOO- 11-30 ENGLISH SESSION: October 03 MORNING 10:00 - 11:30 NIGHT 6:30 - 8:00 October 10 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 October 17 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 October 24 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 November 07 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 November 14 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 ag November -ems 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 December 0 5 10:00 - 11:30 6:30 - 8:00 7 w NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING , 1'0LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS FROM- TOMI SPENCE, BOARD CHAIR DATI January 5, 1995 ICE: LIBRARY BOARD ETI ^ G The regularly scheduled meeting oft the Georgetown w Public Library Advisory Board will be 'held can January 9 1995 at 6-30 p.m. in the Library Board Roam. Change in itself is not unhealthy, but the Texas Library Association finds itself in the position of going into a new legislative session with many new members of the Texas Legislature. All of these members, new and returning, need a great deal of information regarding the importance of libraries in our state. TLA Legislative Day is the one day that Texas librarians, friends, trustees, and interested lay persons gather together in Austin to inform our legislators about our interest in legislation affecting libraries and library users. THAT DAY IS FEBRUARY 15, 1995. The schedule for TLA Legislative Day is: Tuesday, February 14, 1995 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. First briefing session for Legislative Day delegates with a member of the Texas Legislature. Wednesday, February 15, 1995 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Alternate briefing session for Legislative Day delegates who did not attend the Tuesday evening session. 8:00 - 4:00 p.m. Scheduled appointments with Legislators, as arranged by delegate leaders. 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Reception at Saengerrunde Hall, 1607 San Jacinto. To register, use the attached form and sign up to be a delegate. Encourage your colleagues to join you in Austin on the 15th of February. Legislators need to know that libraries are important and that librarians are a concerned and vital part of the legislative process. Join with us to make our voices heard. I would like to note that most absences this year were excused While it was not always mentioned in the minutes, the primary reasons for absence were illness or work related conflicts. These absences were never considered a problem by the Board as a whole, and to my knowledge we were never unable to have a meeting for lack of a quorum.
