Library Board Room
Present: Pat Ball, Nelda Burson, Leah Merrifield, Allene Booth,
Rebecca Pfiester, Jeff Kilgore, Mary Pat McLaughlin
Absent: Martin Beeman, Tresa Anderson, Amy Anderson
The meeting was called to order by Chair Pat Ball. Leah moved to
accept the minutes as presented and Jeff seconded. The minutes were
accepted.
Mary Pat informed us that beginning in June, library patrons will
re -register as families. This will eliminate some bookkeeping and
help families keep track of the books checked out to them. They
may remain as individual members if they desire. The new cards will
be mailed to them and will be effective for three years. This will
help to keep the patron list updated.
Mary Pat discussed the budget in general according to the priorities
not the amounts. She will finish and present the budget to the
city manager by June 10th. At this point she sees the need for a
new confuter and a reference Librarian as the most pressing.
We discussed the upcoming meeting with the city council. We would
like to have this meeting on our next regular meeting date, June 12th
at 6:30. If this is not good for the council, Mary Pat will schedule
another time and let us know. We agreed to ask Mrs. Beeman to cater
the refreshments. In the event that she cannot, Mary Pat may get
them elsewhere. Jeff made this motion and Leah seconded it but the
money will come from 501 (c) (3).
Mary Pat told us about the possiblity of losing Title III federal
funds which would mean that there would be no money to pay for our
Inter -library lending program. We were encouraged to get people to
write to our senators and representatives requesting them to remember
libraries and their needs as they make their budgets.
Some Board Members filled out the Reciprocal borrowing questionnaire.
Library patrons may also fill out these questionaires.
The public use computer is causing some problems with mostly kids
playing around with it. Mary Pat is considering taking off Word
Perfect and Lotus and perhaps adding a small resume program. We
need to gear this computer more to information. The city will trade
software with us so we would not have to purchase more at this time.
Jeff will share his ideas with Mary Pat on how to protect things
presently on this computer.
The Board acknowledged the expenditure of Gift Funds honoring
Jeanette Syme, Jim Boutwell, and Those Restoring the Texas Capitol.
Also a book was given by Joyce Heiney.
Mary Pat accounced that the Evening Lions would be buying some
descriptive videos for the blind. Also the PTA and State Farm will
be purchasing family tapes.
Allene moved that we adjourn and Leah seconded.
Respectfully submitted,
Nelda Burson
