November 14, 1994 6:30 p.m.
Library Board Room
Present: Tomi Spence, Morton King, Amy Anderson, Martin Beeman,
Jeff Kilgore, Tresa Anderson, Mary Pat McLaughlin
Absent: Pat Ball (out of town), Jean Marie Mendez (scheduling
conflict), Nelda Burson
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Because of the
absence of the Secretary, Tresa Anderson kept the minutes, to be typed
by Tomi Spence.
1. Morton King moved to approve the minutes of the previous
meeting, seconded by Jeff Kilgore and passed unanimously.
2. Nancy Biggs, Volunteer Coordinator for the Library gave a
report on library volunteers. She is especially pleased that the new
Welcome Desk of the Library shortly will be manned entirely by six new
volunteers as soon as they are trained. She has two new volunteers to
do shelving, and announced that students from Dell Pickett are going
to "adopt -a -shelf" in the Children's Area. Also, Dell Pickett will be
donating 1/5 of the proceeds from their Jump for Georgetown fund
raiser to the Kid's Catalog. Nancy will participate in the Jump.
3. Those who participated in the Long Range Planning Committee
visit to the Kerrville Library reported that the large community of
retired patrons in Kerrville require a substantial Reference section,
large print items in the front of the Library, and make much use of
the Library services, including computers. Kerrville also has a self-
service genealogy section, which is used a great deal.
4. Mary Pat explained the report projecting needs (with the
coming of Sun City) through the year 2015, and announced that the
representative from Sun City will attend the next Board meeting.
5. Martin Beeman moved to approve the expenditure of funds,
seconded by Morton King and passed unanimously.
6. Mary Pat reported that Carmen Sanchez has been hired to do
book ordering half time, and will spend the other half of her time
learning the cataloging system.
The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Jeff Kilgore, seconded
by Amy Anderson and passed unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
Tomi Spence
