Present: Tomi Spence, Pat Ball, Nelda Burson, Amy Anderson, Jeff
Kilgore, Tresa Anderson, Mary Pat McLaughlin, Morton King
Absent: Martin Beeman, Jean-Marie Mendez (out of town)
The meeting was called to order by Chair, Tomi Spence.
The following corrections were made to the minutes..:
The word I'M,, was a ed as the reason for T�pence's absence,
Director of Community Services, Hartley Sappington did not want to
charge a fee for use of the meeting room. This was incbkded as a
statement from City Manager Bob Hart. The word "again" was struck
from the last paragraph, page 1, as Mary Pat had not yet talked to
Mr. Hart.
Correction was made of the spelling of the word "tutor."
Morton King moved to accept the corrected minutes and Pat Ball seconded.
Tomi Spence reported that the Long Range Planning Committee would
like for the Board to visit some same size or larger libraries around
the State. It was suggested that we might visit libraries at:
Carrolton
Friendswood
League City
Kerrville
It was decided that Board
Kerrville on October 21st
might be able to secure a
members who were able to go would visit
or 28th if possible. Mary Pat thought she
city car for this trip.
Morton King suggested that the Board keep in mind planning for an
increase in the size of our present facility.
Mary Pat reported that she might be able to obtain a PR person from
Sun City to address the Board on their plans and needs.
Amy Anderson reported on the CTLS meeting in Salado attended by Amy
and Mary Pat. The speaker gave them many good tips on how to hold
and persaude audiences through humor. His speech was Presentations
with a Punch. They also received a list of joke and funny story books
and a National Geographic Atlas for the library.
Tomi distributed the evaluation form summary of the Library Director
and thankuPelda Burson for compiling it. Mary Pat appreciated the
comments on the summary and said she would try to learn from it. Mr.
Sappington considered it a good evaluation, according to Tomi.
Library Meeting Room and Board Room Procedures policy will remain the
same with a $10 fee for the Meeting Room and no fee for the Board Room.
There will be no deposits.
Mary Pat reported that there will possible be an expansion of Reciprocal
Agreement with other libraries including the Austin Library, where our
patrons could walk into an Austin library and borrow books or materials.

The following policies were reviewed and reapproved:
Material Selection, Art, Library Card, an a ement of Policy,
Mary Pat submitted a draft for the Genealogy Collection to be added
to the Selection Policy. The Georgetown Library will house general
materials on how to conduct research and materials related to Williamson
County families. This could be cemeteryy indexes, Censes records,
local histories, and discussions of life in Wm. Co. Round Rock will
remain the depository for the collection of the Williamson County
Genealogy Society.
Jeff Kilgore moved to accept the expenditure of funds as follows:
Manning Environmental gift of $100.00 for Sherrif Boutwell Col.
Clara and Don Scarbrough $1,000.00 in memory of Carl Berquist
(books to be chosen on art or other
non-fiction areas)
Tresa Anderson seconded this motion.
The Library Director's Report encluded a graph of the budget showing
the break down of money spent for books. the circulation statistics,
a floor plan of the re -arrangement to be made allowing space for
volunteers to greet patrons and answer the phone. Nancy Biggs will
be recruiting volunteers. New officers of the Friends have big
plans.
Pat Ball moved to adjourn the meeting and Morton King seconded.'

ADMINISTRATION
Lee Sparks and Mary Pat McLaughlin attended a workshop on the Internet presented by the Texas
state Library
Lee Sparks and Mary Pat McLaughlin attended a class in supervising personnel sponsored by the
City
Pat Howe and Karen Breslin left employment with the Library.

Tomi Spence and Nelda Burson sorted several years of Board materials to prepare materials for
storage in accordance with the record retention schedule.
COLLECTION
Lee Sparks has completed the weeding of the Fiction section. She removed duplicates and unused
books, making room for new books and locating current materials easier.
The family of Peggy Baker donated approximately 100 books to the Library from Peggy's personal
library of arty photography, and crafts.
Reference Desk was moved to a location near the front doors. The display cabinets, newspaper

Special programs for the Parent/Child storytimes included Spinning and Weaving with volunteer
Bobbie Stalvey, and a afire Prevention Week presentation by the Fire Department.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
The incoming officers sponsored a tea to honor the retiring officers.

Absent: Martin Beeman, Jean-Marie Mendez (out of town)
The meeting was called to order by Chair Tomi Spence.
The minutes were corrected to show that Tomi Spence was absent at
that meeting due to illness. Morton King then moved that the minutes
be accepted as corrected and Jeff Kilgore seconded.
As there was no business to discuss, Morton King moved to adjourn the
meeting and Jeff Kilgore seconded.
