Absent: Martin Beeman, Tomi Spence(M)
In the absence of Tomi Spence, Pat Ball, Vice Chair called the
meeting to order.
The motion was made to accept the minutes as circulated.'_Ji�hfi�.
Marie Mendez made the motion and it was seconded by Amy Anderson.
Jean-Marie said that she will not be her next meeting.
There were no comments from citizens.
Alma Guzman, representing Practical Parenting Education Classes,
made a request to use the facilities waiving :th6, fee!tdndtrtheiaonce
a month policy so that the group; could use the facilities four
nights in November. Jean Marie Mendez moved that the Board waive
the fee and the once a month policy for this group at this time.
Jeff Kilgore seconded and the motion carried.
The Long Range Planning Committee meeting is set for September 26th,
at 6:30.
Mary Pat McLaughlin reported that the budget status remains the
same but wanted the Board to note that there is an increase this
year of 40% in the Book -materials budget. The Board agreed that
this was good but was sorry not to have more personnel money.
Nelda Burson reported that the compilation of the director evaluation
is complete and will be presented to Tomi Spence so that she might
go over this with Mary Pat. The Board will discuss the summary
at the next Board meeting.
The Board again recommends that there be a fee far use of the COA--"""h'�l
meeting room. Mary Pat reported that the G ty M 4agnY did not
want to charge a fee. Ethel explained some of the procedures as /a rfky
they now are and how they affect the staff. Tudors may sign up no SC.p'nit'f/1x
more than two weeks in advance to use the board room. The Board
recommends that we follow the ALA recomendations on the use of such
a public library room.
Tresa Anderson made a motion that we change the fees to $15.00 for
the meeting room and $5.00 for the Board room effective January 1st.
Morton King seconded this motion and the motion carried.
Mary Pat will talk atwith the City Manager, Mr. Hart.
Jeff Kilgore moved that we accept the proposal as we amended it-
Tu*ors would use the room free of charge but could sign up no more
that two weeks in advance and that the fee for other would be $15.00
for the meeting room and $5.00 for the Board room. Jean-Marie
seconded this motion and it passed.
Since we are again in need of a representative to CTLS, Tomi Spence
has volunteered to do this. Amy Anderson will be the alternate.
Tresa Anderson moved that we accept Tomi Spence as Representative
to CTLS and Amy Anderson as alternate. Jeff Kilgore seconded the
motion and it was unanimously approved.
Ependiture of Funds was accepted as circulated. Morton King made
the motion and Tresa Anderson seconded.
Mary Pat reported that patron visits will be 100,000 this year.
The Friends of the Library will be meeting to elect offices. Th6a
newly proposed officers seem to be very excited.
Morton King moved to adjourn the meeeting and Jeff Kilgore seconded.

MATERIALS SELECTION POLICY H GUIDELINES FOR SPECIFIC COLLECTIONS
GENEALOGY COLLECTION
The Genealogy Collection of the Georgetown Public Library will include general materials on
how to conduct research and materials related to Williamson County families. All other types of
materials are available in the Round Rock Public Library, which is the depository for the
collection of the Williamson County Genealogy Society.
The following people have donated money for the Sheriff Jim
Boutwell Texana Collection at the Georgetown Public Library:

LIBRARY SERVICES DIRECTOR
SEPTEMBER 1994
ADMINISTRATION
Mary Pat McLaughlin and Amy Anderson attended the first CTLS meeting of the year in Salado.
Nancy Biggs, Volunteer Coordinator and Mary Pat McLaughlin visited the Newcomers meeting to
discuss volunteer opportunities at the Library.
Mary Pat McLaughlin attended workshops on New Computer Technology for Libraries and the
Internet. The event was part of staff development for The Austin Public Library and cosponsored
by CTLS.
All staff members attended Drug Awareness education through workshops sponsored by the City.
Two new staff computers has arrived. Staff will need time to adjust to the new software.
Tomi Spence and Amy Anderson were appointed by the City Council as CTLS Lay Representatives.
The Long Range Planning committee of the Board met.
Carmen Sanchez completed a two month project of organizing the Board minutes which had been
stored in loose folders.
COLLECTION
Bibliography of the Sheriff Jim Boutwell Texana Collection has been completed and is being
prepared for printing.

The Staff is completing plans to move the Reference Desk to a location near the front doors. The
display cabinets, newspaper storage and audio cassette shelving will be moved to other locations
to make room.

VOLUNTEERS
Nancy Biggs will be recruiting volunteers to greet patrons and answer the phone These volunteers
will be using one section of the Reference desk in its new locating near the front doors.
PROGRAMMING
Lee Sparks prepared and presented a program on children's books to High School English classes.
Story -time programs included Christopher Maier, a special Grandparents Day story and programs
presented by the parents.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
The Friends of the Library elected new officers.
Representative of the Literacy Council of Williamson County attended The Society for the
Preservation of the Gentle Art of Reading Aloud in September.

regular Board Meeting.

Tresa Anderson moved to accept the minutes as circulated and
Jean-Marie Mendez seconded.
Morton King moved that the Board spend $300.00 for books requested
by Practical Parenting Education Classes. Jeff Kilgore seconded
and the motion passed.
Morton King moved that the meeting be adjourned and Jean-Marie Mendez
seconded. The meeting was adjourned.
