August 8, 1994
Present: Amy Anderson, Pat Ball, Martin Beeman, Tresa Anderson,
Jean-Marie Mendez, Nelda Burson, Tomi Spence, Mary Pat McLaughlin,
Ethel
Absent: Morton King, Jeff Kilgore
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 by Chair Tomi Spence.
The motion was made by Pat Ball and seconded by Tresa Anderson
to accept the minutes as circulated.
Mary Pat informed the Board that the cuts in the submitted budget
were because there simply was not enough money for all of these
things. It was noted that the $10,000 for books was approved.
It was noted that since there was no approval for Reference
Services Staff, the 501C Board is uncommited for the database -
products. Total approved budget is $357,917.00.
The Long Range Planning Committee will meet Aug. 22 at 6:30.
Tomi Spence distributed evaluation forms for Director of Library
Services. These are to be filled in and returned to Nelda Burson
by Aug.29th.
The next Board meeting will be Sept 12th.
A revised Meeting Room Policy draft was presented by Ethel, who
is head of the staff committee working on this project. She
pointed out the fact that knowing who paid and who did not and
the handling and returning of deposits checks was very time
consuming for the staff. Since Oct, 1993 the meeting room has
brought in $320.00. It is uncertain who may use the room free.
For this reason the new proposal was to let all use the room free.
The Board thought that there should be a fee use and suggested
$25.00. The Board agreed that in lieu of a deposit, the users
could sign an agreement to pay for damages. How to collect was
discussed with a mention of help from the County Attorney.
Jean Marie Mendez moved that we not accept the policy as presented.
Martin Beeman seconded and the voted unamiously to decline.
Tomi and others will meet with Hartley Sappington to determine
who can use the room free and to ask for a list of such groups
for the benefit of the staff.
The Central Texas Library Systems lay representative's term is
up. The present person in in this position is John Duer. The
Board decided to ask him to take another turn. Amy Anderson
volunteered to be the alternate representative.
The Round Rock -Georgetown Reciprocal Borrowing Statistics were
reviewed. Jean Marie Mendez made a motion that we continue this
agreement. Amy Anderson seconded this and it passed.
Mary Pat discussed the gifts and memorials chiefly the
Sheriff Jim Boutwell Collection of Texana, both children's and
adult's books. Martin Beeman moved that we approve the Gift
Fund Expenditures. Pat Ball seconded and it was passed unanimously.
Mary Pat presented a certificate for participation in the summer
reading program to Nelda Burson.
Pat Ball moved to adjourn the meeting and Tresa Anderson seconded.
