Present: Morton King, Jean Marie Mendez,Tomi Spence, Jeff Kilgore,
Amy Anderson, Tresa Anderson, Nelda Burson, Mary Pat
McLaughlin
Absent: Pat Ball, Martin Beeman
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Tomi Spence.
Betty Thompson, who is doing an internship at the library bbterved
the meeting.
Morton King moved to approve the minutes as circulated and Jeff
Kilgore seconded.
Jeri Manhal, with the newly formed Georgetown Information and Volunteer
Exchange was unable to be present.
The Long Range Planning Committee will meet June 27th at 6:30 in
the library.
Under discussion of the budget, Mary Pat informed the board that
she would be able to have 2 hours per week secretarial work done by
one of the part-time people.
Mary Pat said that she would be able to contract to update author
and subject authority files of library holdings to match newest forms
authorized by Library of Congress for 41t per record.
We discussed the merits of providing a few contract programs for
children along with our regular volunteer programs.
We discussed the evaluation of our existing services as it is shown
on the present form and considered up or down grading some of those
services if the staff also thinks they should be.
King moved that we approve the gift fund expenditures. This is $10.00
toward the Info Tract computer program or any other computer program
and the books to be purchased in memory of Joshua Lloyd Evans. Burson
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
We discussed the fact that we had never withheld a deposit from
anyone renting the meeting room and decided to withhold the deposit
in the event that the room was damaged or left in bad condition.
The deposit is $25.00 and the fee for use is $10.00.
Mary Pat presented a possible logo for the library to be used on
stationary, fliers, etc.
Mendez moved to adjourn the meeting and Tresa Anderson seconded.

LIBRARY SERVICES DIRECTOR
JUNE 1994
BOARD ACTIVITIES
The Long Range Planning committee met to continue work on the
extension of the five-year plan. The committee and staff will
identify and visit other libraries with innovative programs.
BUILDING
Workers have started sealing the overhead ductwork to reduce
heating and cooling loss.
ADMINISTRATION
Visitors to the Library passed the 10,000 per month mark during
June and use over 19,800 books (5000 more than in the month of
May).
Two Employment Resources students are working part-time during the
summer.
The public use computers donated by the 501(c)(3) Library Board
have been received and should be installed by mid -July.
VOLUNTEERS
Betty Thompson, a student at the Graduate School of Library and
Information Science, will be volunteer at the Library during June
and July as part of a Reference Practicum. To receive class credit
for her work, she will assist at the Reference and Circulation
desks and complete a bibliography of information sources for
Georgetown's businesses.
Ten Teen volunteers have been helping with the summer reading
program.
COLLECTION
The first 25 books of the Sheriff Jim Boutwell Texana Collection
have been ordered using the $350 in donations received for the
collection this month. A bibliography listing the books and donors
will be available at the library.

PROGRAMMING
The exhibit cases have been filled with interesting objects and
information as part of "Familiar Faces, Faraway Places". Paul
Leff orge and Sharon Downs have loaned items from Russia and Romania
to introduce children to life in faraway places.
The Summer Reading Kick-off parade was a great success. The Police
and Fire Departments provided excellent escorts for the children,
parents and volunteers. The parade was filmed and televised on the
local cable channel.
Mary Beth Huba has returned for her 10th year as volunteer for
Summer Reading. She will present all the programs for the pre-
school age children.
Programs for the older Reading Club students have been presented by
volunteers from The Society for Creative Anachronism, Linda Handley
and Lou Lou Barber.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
Friends of the Library and the Society for the Preservation of the
Gentle Art of Reading Aloud will not meet in July.

The meetinq was called to order at 6:50 by the Chairman.
1. J.Kilqor moved (2nd P.Ball) that the minutes of the June IJ
meetinq be approved as submitted. Approved unanimously.
2. The public use computers have been delivered and are in
operation! As the Board had previously approved $7p500 of public
use computer expenditures (which has not yet all bben spent),
MaryPat is now qettinq a CD Rohm drive for the magazine index on a
computer.
3. The Board had previously approved the purchase of medical books.
A list of the books purchased was provided.

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 by Chair Tomi Spence,.
Betty Thompson, who is doing an internship at the library observed
the meeting.
Morton King asked that the minutes be corrected to read as followed
Jean Mendez moved to start and fund (up to $250.00) a promotion to
raise private funds for a computer system, of which the 501(c)(3)
will match 1/3 of total contributions not to exceed the cost of the
Kid's Catalog estimated at $3850.00.
Jeff Kilgore moved to accept the minutes as corrected and Amy Anderson
seconded the motion.
The May 16 minutes were approved as circulated.
Tomi Spence reported that the Friends of the Library who were asked
to plan and lead in a fund raising campaign to assist in purchasing
the Kid's Catalog were having a hard time getting that project started.
The treasurer's report was presented and Jean Marie Mendez moved to
accept the report. Morton King seconded.
Mary Pat McLaughlin reported on the state of the computers - they
have not yet been shipped. A newer model will be shipped soon. If
not, Mary Pat will look at other computers with other companies.
Jeff Kilgore presented figures from one security company to place
4 black and white cameras with a split screen around the building
for the purchase price of $5,697.43. After discussion, the board
decided to talk with the staff concerning their security fears and
perhaps wait awhile since daylight hours are now long.
Morton King moved that this board approve the purchase of the Concise
Dictionary of British Literary Biography, 8 vols, at $395.00.An��n
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Jeff Kilgore moved to adjourn the meeting and Tresa Anderson seconded.
