Tresa moved to accept the minutes as written and Jeff seconded the motion. Tresa presented the financial statement. Total funds available are $54,933.67. Martin moved to accept the treasurer's report and Allene seconded the motion. The nominating committee presented the following slate of officers: Chair: Vice Chair: Secretary: Treasurer: Amy Anderson Allene Booth Leah Merrifield Jeff Kilgore Tresa made a motion to accept these officers and Martin seconded the motion. The officers were accepted unanimously. Tresa moved to adjourn the meeting and Allene seconded. Allene moved to accept the minutes as written and Amy seconded. Pat welcomed Sally Riddles to the Board and Sheila Henderson to the Library and the City. Sharon Sanders is the other new Board member but was not present. The nominating committee presented the following names as recommended candidates for Board Officers: Chair: Amy Anderson Vice Chair: Allene Booth Secretary: Leah Merrifield Tresa moved to accept the slate of officers as presented and Rebecca seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Sheila, the new Library Director, and Sally the new Board Member introduced themselves to the Board with a few words about their lives and hopes for their new positions. The Board responded with like introductions. The new Chairman Amy conducted the meeting from this point on. Amy asked Pat to explain Board procedures. We are an Advisory Board to the City Council. We make informed recommendations working with and through the Library Director. Board meetings are public and announced.ahead of time. Attendance is required. Members can be removed from the Board with three absenses. We meet the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Gifts were acknowledged from Database Consultants, Inc, Tom and Regina Watson in memory of John Bulota and from John and Beverly Treuhardt in memory of Louis and Beatrice Hurie and Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Treuhardt. Sheila said she is very pleased to have the new Fax. A card of thanks from Sheila was read concerning the welcome she has received from the Board. Jeff moved to adjourn the meeting and Pat seconded the motion. Joy Marion, Head of Technical Services, resigned and left on December 22, 1995. Kathleen Burnop was hired as temporary -on -call library assistant. LR planning committee members conducted surveys throughout the community, January 1996 I LaToya Parker resigned as library page. Lee Sparks, Head of Circulation, attended a Lotus software program class and an employee motivation seminar. A Windows class was attended by staff members Lee Sparks, Doris Kingsbery, and Esther Wilson. A fax line was installed in the Library (930-3764) David Williams was hired as the new temporary page and will be working evenings and Saturdays. Judy Fabry was promoted to temporary full-time status. Lee Sparks took on the added responsibility of supervising Technical Services. Ethel Barnes toured the ALA exhibits in San Antonio. Rosa Garcia, Judy Fabry, Ethel Barnes and Lee Sparks were in attendance at the recent CTLS reference workshop. Rosa Garcia and Lee Sparks visited libraries in San Antonio and San Marcos. A special storytime program was held on Thursday, January 25, 1996. Guest presenter, Stephanie Christina, Health Program Specialist from the Texas Department of Health, presented information on Child Safety Seat. She discussed how to pick the right car seat, the appropriate way to use it and what to do about recalls of the product. IRS Tax forms are again being made available to the public. Tax help is also available until April. VOLUNTEERS Volunteers worked 253 hours in January which equates to 1.5 paid personnel. Their help is always needed but has been especially invaluable during the past months. Volunteer Doug Dapper will be taking Large Print books to the nursing homes. COLLECTIONS lu The audio collection is growing as a result of donations from the public. Several videos have been added to the collection. BUILDING FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY The Friends of the Library have begun work on their spring projects, including a book sale in April. Books are being collected for the April sale.
