Subject: Library Board Member, Daniel Castro
Date: July 18, 1997
i
Board member Daniel Castro has attended one meeting (April) since his appointment. He
notified me that he would not be present at the March meeting and for the May 30-31
Board/Staff retreat. However, I have not heard from him since then. We are assuming that he has
been receiving his board packets each month as the postal service has not returned them.
Additionally, Board chairperson Amy Anderson has left several messages on his voice mail from
which she has rec1 eived no response.
According to the City Utility Office, Dr. Castro now resides in Austin. Please advise further
action.

PROGRAMMING
3
With the Summer Reading Program in full swing, the events just kept getting better. The
children enjoyed decorating pots for the 4th, painting, origami, and making puppets, and
masks. They were awe struck by the wonders of magic, the special tricks displayed by
the trained dogs and the huge machines that make this city run. The tea party with the
American Girls, and a zoo show were also big hits with the children. On the creative
side, the children were given the opportunity to draw animals, people, and landscapes.
Some of these pictures are now on display in the display cases. To end the 8-week
program Ms Rosa invited all involved to attend a party at a nearby park. The kid's
played games, had their faces painted and were entertained by a fairy princess, and a
clown. Pizza, punch and other goodies were devoured by all.
VOLUNTEERS
Ms Julie Fuschak has been volunteering at the Library for over 2 years and in that time
has spent many hours helping Dixie Hanna organize her book lists and doing other tasks.
Recently she spent her time diligently writing out the order slips for all those new books
Dixie has requested. It's a tiring task but someone has to do it and we thank her for her
dedication to the Library.

Sally Riddle, Nelda Burson and Lay Representative Rebecca Pfiester
Absent: Martin Beeman and Sharon Sanders
Amy Anderson called the meeting to order. Sally .mended the minutes of the last meeting
to include Trisha Wilhohn's last name. The minutes of the July 14,1997 meeting were
approved as amended wi a motion from Sally, a second from Nell and a passing vote.
Sally presented the proposed theme and invitation for the Gala. Discussion included the
fact that the speaker and ballroom will not be available on the same date. The board
entertained the idea of moving the gala to the spring. Sheila said she would find out if
there is a date when Cactus Pryor and the Sun City Ballroom are both available and that
also does not conflict with any events of the city's 150 birthday celebration.
The 501(c)(3) board's 97/98 budget was proposed. After some discussion about where
the board generally wants money spent, Greg volunteered to propose a new budget at the
next meeting.
Greg presented a treasurer's report.
Old Business: Sally presented some possible Library Foundation logos and asked each
member to pick their favorite and give any input. The blue open book was the favorite and
Rebecca suggested adding another color or two to the logo.
The city gift fund was presented in a hand out.
New Business: The board discussed having a workshop to update the Long Range Plan.
The board also discussed having a special meeting to talk about forming the foundation.
No special meeting was scheduled, some board members would like to vote next month
on the by-laws and articles of incorporation that have already been presented.
The meeting was adjourned by a motion from Greg and second from Nell and a passing
vote.
