The Library's Celebrity Day Event was a success. Over 200 patrons attended the

supporting their local library. Several business leaders, two council members and GISD
Administrators served their time behind the circulation desk assisting and talking to

during our re -organization.

i
FRIEND'S OF THE LIBRARY
The Friends had a busy month with the gathering and organizing of books for their book
sale, and helping to make the Celebrity Day event a success. The sale days may have
been dark and gloomy with rain, but over $600 was raised from the sale and silent
auction of donated books. Great job to Karen and her staff of helpers, who weathered the
rain both inside and out.

Library Board Room
May 12, 1997
Present: Amy Anderson, Sheila Henderson. Nelda Burson, Sharon Sanders, Sally Riddle,
Michelle Crider, Greg Gibbons, Nell Dickson, and Lay Representative Rebecca Pfiester
Absent: Martin Beeman, Daniel Castro.
Amy Anderson called the meeting to order. The minutes of the April 14, 1997 meeting
approved as written by a motion from Sally and a second by Michelle; the motion passed.
A reccomendation was presented by Nell Dickson. Nell recommended that we accept the
proposed amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and the By-laws. There were a few
items for discussion which were agreed upon. Sally made a motion that the board accept
the amended Articles and By-laws with the agreed upon changes. Michelle seconded the
motion. The motion did not pass. The board asked Nell to present the amendments with
the agreed upon changes for the board to vote on at the next meeting.
Greg presented a treasurer's report. Greg noted that the IRS needs proof that the 501
(c)(3) board has not had any income greater than $25,000 for any year since 1993. The
treasurer's reports from past years should be satisfactory for this proof. Greg mentioned
that he will provide a monthly treasurer's report even though only a quarterly report is
required. Greg also mentioned that possibility of doing some additional (more aggressive)
investing of the 501 (c)(3) boards assets.
Sheila presented a letter that she will be sending out from the board thanking people for
their participation in the National Library Week celebrations and asking them for
donations. Some suggestions were made by board members as to the wording of the
letter.
The meeting was adjourned by a motion from Sally and second from Michelle and a
passing vote.
Respectfully submitted by Sally Riddle.
