Absent: Jeff Kilgore, Sharon Sanders, Sally Riddle
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Amy Anderson The
minutes of the October 14th meeting were approved as written with
a motion by Allene and a second by Nell.
The 10 year birthday of the present library building was briefly
discussed. This building opened on September 8th, 1987 and was
dedicated on October 8th, 1987.
The gift fund expenditures were accepted as written with the total
being $453.00.
Sheila reported on the conversion from the old computer system to
the new. It is in progress. She also announced the resignation of
the recently hired Technical Assistant and said she would be inter-
viewing for this position shortly. Sheila reminded us of the first
annual Texas Book Festival to be held on the Capital grounds November
16th and 17th.
Michelle reported that the Friends have purchased a laminating machine
and one roll of laminate which should be here in ten days or so.
As there was no further business Rebecca moved to adjourn the meeting
and Martin seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.

MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
October 1996
Highlights
The Dynix conversion to the City's IBM RS6000 was successful, and the upgrade to
software release 153 followed with only a few problems. Training on the new release
will begin in November and continue through December.
Technical Services Librarian, Amanda Lancaster, submitted her resignation which
was effective October 31.
STAFF - Out and About!
Sheila Henderson met with Sybil Hampton and Lynn Brody of Southwestern
University to discuss library and community relations issues on October 2.
Judy Fabry attended a Grant Writing and Management Workshop given by the
Texas Municipal League on October 16.
On October 21, Eric Lashley and Lee Sparks attended an Internet Reference=Class in
Waco, given by John Tliff of Pinellas Park Library, Florida.
Lee Sparks and Eric Lashley attended Internet Odyssey in San Antonio, on October
28.
Sheila Henderson was guest speaker at the Optimist Club monthly meeting on October
29.
Management meetings sponsored by the City continued throughout the month of
October, with Sheila Henderson in attendance at all but one.
ADMINISTRATION
Amanda Lancaster resigned her position as Technical Services Librarian.
October was a busy one for the Children's department with almost 500 in attendance for
the monthly activities. Ms. Rosa, along with help from Kathleen Bumop, invited the
children to create frogs and spiders, and enjoyed music, songs and refreshments at the
Autumn Fun Festival on October 31. The music ,,vas provided by Ms. Esther Ortiz.
Much help has been needed over the last few weeks to get us back on track after our
conversion. Our volunteers group has enabled us to keep up with the daily duties and
provide support for us during our upgrade of the computer system. All of our volunteers
are a great help to all departments.
FRIEND'S OF THE LIBRARY
On October 18, The Friends presented The Edward and Jennie Royce "I Love to
Read" Essay contest awards night. The finalists were presented their awards, and were
asked to read their essays. This contest was developed to provide seventh and eighth
graders with the opportunity to use their writing skills to express their enjoyment of
reading. This years theme was "A Book that has Influenced my Life ".
FUTURE PLANWH
Technical Services Librarian interviews to be conducted during November.
CTLS Regional Meetings held during November.
Dynix circulation training to be held November 13 and 14.
National Children's Book Week is November 18 - 24.

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Amy Anderson, -The
minutes of the October 14th meeting were approved as written with
a motion by Martin and a second by Nelda.
Allene reported that the Steering Committee appointed to set up the
special fund for gifts, donations, grants, etc. is not yet ready to
make a report.

Sheila said that Mr. HaaGsa_)4e*e" is finishing the partition for Rosa's
office and that to separate the Children's Library from the main
library. Also Mr. Fisher does not wish to build the other two en-
closures. We all went in to admire Mr. Fisher's work. Sheila will
be taking other bids for the enclosures for computers and Texas History.
Allene moved to adjourn the meeting and Nelda seconded the motion.
The meeting was adjourned.

monthly updates at $1,495 per year. AV contains popular videos, books on tapes, etc.
We also offer NICEM which is more oriented toward educational materials. NICEM
