September 9,1996
Present. Amy Anderson, Nelda Burson, Sheila Henderson, Jeff Kilgore, Rebecca Pfiester,
Elizabeth Gray, Allene Booth, Nell Dickson, and Sally Riddle, guest Pat Tuohy
Absent: Sharon Sanders, Martin Beeman
Chairperson Amy Anderson called the meeting to order. The minutes of the August 12,
1996 meeting were approved as written with a motion from Sally and a second by Jeff.
There were no comments from citizens. Sheila indicated that there were no major
complaints about the library closing for the inventory process, but the library was
extremely busy on its first open day.
New board member, Nell Dickson introduced herself and each board member welcomed
her and introduced themselves.
The board voted to elect Michelle Crider as its Lay Representative to the Central Texas
Library System meetings by a motion from Jeff and second from Alene. The board also
voted to elect Morton King as the alternate Lay Representative by a motion from
Rebecca and second from Jeff. The election of the representative and alternate is
conditional upon the acceptance of the post by the elected. During the meeting Michelle
Crider accepted the post. Rebecca volunteered to be the alternate if Morton did not
accept the position of alternate.
Pat Tuohy, CTLS Coordinator showed a video from the American Library Association
and gave each board member the "Public Library Advisory Board Handbook".
The expenditure of gift funds report was presented and discussed. Rebecca asked if the
ad regarding the opportunity for people to donate to a Harry Gold fund could be run a
second time in the Williamson County Sun. Sheila will contact the paper.
Sheila presented the library director's report as read with no additions or corrections
Jeff moved to adjourn the meeting, Rebecca seconded, the motion carried

MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
August 1996
lHighlights
.4ugust was staffdevekopment and libraryplanning month. Staff participated in a one
day workshop sponsored by the Austin Public Library and Central Texas Library
System. The workshop offered an opportunity for librarians and support staff to
participate in career developing and professional enhancement seminars and hands-on
sessions.
GPL staff members continued their personal development sessions with Human
Resources Director, Teresa Hersh, throughout the month of August.
Final plans are in progress for the September 28, TLA District IWCTLS Fall
Membership joint meetings, which is being hosted this year by our library and City.
STAFF - Out and About!
Sheila Henderson attended a neighborhood meeting with Chief Hesser on August 1, to
discuss library opportunities for youth.
Library Staff attended the APL/CTLS Staff Development Day on August 2.
A program planning session in preparation for the TLA District HI/CTLS Fall
Membership joint meetings was attended by Sheila Henderson on August 5.
On August 9, Lee Sparks attended a Telecommunications Infrastructure meeting in San
Marcos.
Sheila Henderson and Elizabeth Gray met with Kevin Marsh on August 13 to discuss
the roll the Library should or should not be playing in the development of the proposed
Community Information Network.
Sheila Henderson met with the Friends' group on August 15, to discuss the purchase of
a laminating machine for the Library.
On August 15, and 19, Sheila Henderson attended Georgetown Project meetings.
On August 21, Lee Sparks attended a web design class at Sun City.
Lee Sparks attended the MAIN sponsored web raising workshop on Saturday, August 24
Sheila Henderson attended the Council 96197 Budget meeting on August 26.
On August 26, Mandy Lancaster, Ralph Love, and Ethel Barnes attended a book
preservation demonstration at the Library
Lee Sparks attended a Loss Control workshop on August 27, sponsored by the Safety
Commission.
On August 29, Sheila Henderson, Lee Sparks, Eric Lashley, and Mandy Lancaster
attended a City wide Drug and Alcohol seminar at the Library.
ADMINISTRATION
The following positions recieved reviews and upgrades during the month of August:
library assistants - circulation (salary adjustment), acquisitions assistant (salary
adjustment), acquisitions and cataloging assistant (salary adjustment, grade change),
library page (position change, salary adjustment, grade change), assistant library director
(grade change), and technical services librarian (grade change).
Monica Hulshizer resigned the position of Library Page in order to return to college.
PROGRAMMING
August has been a quiet month for the Library Children's department. Ms Rosa has been
gathering ideas for her fall programs, and recovering from her hectic summer program.
Starting on September 12; the Children's storytime will once again begin.
VOLUNTEERS
Our Tech Support staff has enjoyed having a number of volunteers for the past few
weeks. Their help is greatly appreciated in entering and deleting books which gives us a
head start on our inventory for September.
FRIEND'S OF THE LIBRARY
The August meeting of the Friends' was held to discuss the amendment of their bylaws.
They also have planned a fund raiser and a social gathering for later this fall. Elections
are also corning up, and nominations are welcome for new officers.
FUTURE PLANS!!!
Inventory of the library's collection will be conducted September 3 through September
6.
Staff will lead sessions and participate as hosts of the TLA District IWCTLS Fail
Membership joint meetings to be held September 28, 1996.
Contract signing and installation of release 153 of the Dynix system will begin in
September.

Absent: Sharon Sanders, Martin Beeman, and Amy Anderson
Vice Chairperson Allene Booth called the meeting to order. Nelda moved to approved
the minutes from the August 12th meeting, Jeff seconded, the motion carried -
Jeff presented the financial report. With the most recent interest earnings the total is
currently $48,271.85.
Sheila indicated that she has not gotten any response from the company that was working
on the estimate of the proposed library area enclosures.
Alene indicated that the steering committee is not yet meeting and thus will not have any
report for the board until after October. (Note: Members of the steering committee met
after the board meeting to solicit information from Pat Tuohy about setting up a
foundation.)
The computer purchased for the library by the board is still on order and has yet to be
received.
The meeting was adjourned following a motion by Sally and a second from Nelda.
