Sheila commented on the letter from a visitor who was dissatisfied with the lack of genealogical materials available in the library. The Board agreed that the Georgetov'Library was the proper place for such materials as this is the county seat. Sheila advised us that without staff and space, there is no need to pursue getting these materials which are presently housed in the Round Rock Library. The board recommended that Sheila keep a file of all such complaints and requests. The board recognized gifts made in May as follows: San Gabriel Women's Club $280.00 to be used as needed, Dell Webb's Sun City Georgetown $175.00 for the Rumpelstiltskin Puppet Show, First Bank $100.00 savings bond for children's programs, also $200.00 from the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library for the lasso show with Devin Fitzpatrick. Nelda had a card of thanks from a sponsor of the Liberty Hill School group who were here for stories. The card was very compli- mentary of the library and the story teller. Sheila reported that Eric Lashley as the new head of Public Services has begun his work and is full of good ideas. He will be an asset to the library, she believes. Christy McNicholas has just started as a part time Staff Assistant. Sheila announced that Peter Rolls, a Sun City resident has arranged to have two companies provide the library with free Internet accounts. Jeff has volunteered to secure his sister to help him create a Web page for the library at no cost. We will be able to recieve E mail. There was some discussion of the $5,000.00 "old gift fund" mentioned in the June 12, 1995 minutes. This was tabled for lack of informa- tion at this time. The children's summer program started off with a day in the park. There were about 300 children present. The Friends Group is helping Rosa promote and conduct these activities. Jeff will be in Ireland next meeting and Rebecca will be on vacation. Sally moved to adjourn the meeting and Jeff seconded the motion. We were quite disappointed, however, that your library had such a small amount of genealogical books and research material available. Fortunately, we met Mr. Ralph Love. Mr. Love was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable in local families and their histories. In particular, we were looking for a book titled "Culture of Shin Oak Ridge" by Dr. Bryson. It contains histories for the George, Vann, and Grier families of Liberty Hill. Your library had only one copy and it was checked out. Thankfully we were able to locate a copy at the nearby Round Rock library. Additionally, the Williamson County Courthouse and Annex provided a wealth of information. I am at a loss to understand why the Georgetown Public Library, located in the county seat, has such a limited selection of genealogical material. Were it not for Mr. Love, our time spent researching would have been futile. Perhaps you might look into expanding your "Family History" section to include a wider selection of local and regional material for future researchers. Sincerely, Genealogical and Historical Research Georgetown Area Library Board 501(C)3) Library Meeting Room June 10, 1996 Present: Sally Riddle, Sharon Sanders, Jeff Kilgore, Martin Beeman, Allene Booth, Rebecca Pfiester, Sheila Henderson, Nelda Burson, Leah Merrifield Absent: Amy Anderson Allene Booth opened the meeting in the absence of Amy.
