The holiday weeks have usually been a slow time for the library. STAFF ACTIVITIES • The new cataloging librarian, Kate DiPronio, completed cataloging the backlog of children's books that had built up over the past year. Now when she finishes her work with children's books, she is available to help catalog adult materials. She is also working a regular shift at the circulation desk. • For Christmas, the staff adopted a family associated with the McKinney-Vento Project. Zelinda Richards, project administrator, spoke to the staff on the day that they presented their gift to the family. VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES • Richard Miller, who volunteered to teach basic computer classes at the library, ,spent December designing his course. For his presentations he will use a media projector that was purchased with funds from the Dell Connected Community grant. He will teach two classes each Monday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with a maximum of twelve students in each session. The classes will be repeated each month throughout the year. • The help of Gilbert Bowers, Georgia Copeland, Colin and Judy Johnston, and Thomas and Katy Moore, all of whom worked their regular hours or more during December, was especially valuable during December. Vacations and illness among staff and volunteers, and especially heavy use of the library during the holiday period, put heavy burdens on everyone who worked. 0 • GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Comparative Fiscal Year Statistics 2003 Oct Nov Dec Annual Total Patron Visits Current Year 20914 15350 17844 54108 2002-2003 17509 14213 12863 224208 2001-2002 17185 15144 11835 206478 2000-2001 18889 13893 11335 183296 {see notes below Circulation 2003 Current Year 25571 20978 22413 68962 2002-2003 28599 23345 20787 318820 2001-2002 27339 22579 19706 330503 2000-2001 23448 21099 20707 322238 FY 2003-2004 Statistics Children•s Programs Annual Total Attendance 775 604 645 2024 Programs 2 4 1 7 Story Time 9 4 4 17 Other (four, Movies, Crafts) 1 0 0 1 After School Programs 5 2 2 4 Other Services ILL Ordered 40 25 38 103 ILL filled 40 21 38 99 Lg Print Circuit 200 200 400 Internet usage (persons) 3686 2851 3098 9635 Reference Transactions 577 477 583 1637 Volunteer Hours Adult 299.00 310.25 366A0 975.65 Teen 51.25 46.25 26.75 124.25 Community Service 57.25 76.40 76.50 210.15 Total 407.50 432.90 469.65 1310.05 Registrations City Residents -new 88 65 61 214 GISD Kids' Cards 15 9 3 27 Non -residents -new 20 23 23 66 Non -residents -renew 63 42 37 142 Total 186 139 124 449 Cash Receipts Fines/Misc.
