DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
so October 2005
HIGHLIGHTS
• Preparations for installation of the DiscoverStations took place throughout the month.
Hardware not included in the packages was purchased and necessary changes in computer
drops were made so that the public printer and reference desk could be moved to new locations.
• Dick Gregory, who was a child model for Norman Rockwell, spoke to an audience of about 30
people on Tuesday evening, October 18. He also showed some of the original art for which he
and his brother had posed.
• The groundbreaking for the new building took place on Saturday, October 22. A reception, with
refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library, followed at the library. A virtual tour of
the exterior of the building was available at that time. About 100 people attended the event.
• Ghostbusters was the movie shown for Teen Movie Night on Thursday, October 20. Although
the audiences seem to be made up more of families than teens, Kate DiPronio, adult services
librarian, is encouraged by the attendance and will continue the program.
* STAFF ACTIVITIES
* Kate DiPronio and Gretchen Pruett attended the TLA District 3 meeting in Temple on October
21. Kate and Deban Becker, who was the YA intern last summer, gave a presentation about
incorporating diversity into young adult programming. They spoke about their Manga Mania
program.
* On October 26 Kate DiPronio attended a CTLS workshop in Temple about providing services to
aging library users.
VOLUNTEERS
* Four new volunteers began working during October. All are helping with shelving.
