An enthusiastic audience of approximately 70 people attended Elizabeth Moon's presentation on February 23 at Southwestern University. She spoke about raising an autistic son and made suggestions about how the community can help the parents of autistic children. • Rosa Garcia, Children's Services Coordinator, arranged for a special Saturday children's program on February 25 which was well -attended. Michael Hicks did a fascinating presentation with four large birds from the Capital of Texas Zoo. • The Friends of the Library held their annual membership drive at the library February 15-17. Receipts were just less than $6000. • On February 22 Eric Lashley and Rosa Garcia met with representatives from Croslin Associates and Phillip Swager Associates about the design of the children's room in the new library. • Staff has begun to weed the collection heavily, aiming to put as much withdrawn material as possible into the Friends' book sale in June. • The library has received the index to the photographs that the Georgetown Heritage Society will be transferring to the library. Preparations have begun for announcing the transfer of the collection during May, which is Historic Preservation Month. STAFF • On February 17, Rosa Garcia attended a CTLS-sponsored orientation for the summer reading program. The theme this year is sports. VOLUNTEERS • In an effort to eliminate increasing numbers of check -in errors, Judy Johnston spent many hours at the library during February, observing the volunteers who check -in books and updating them on procedures that may have changed or that need special attention. From now on, only Judy - certified volunteers may check -in materials. 0 GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY - Comparative Fiscal Year Statistics 2005 2006 Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Annual Total Patron Visits Current Year 23232 17724 17784 21945 21506 102191 2004-2005 21815 20831 10203' 21827 22611 262565 2003-2004 20914 15350 17844 19841 21725 257813 2002-2003 17509 14213 12863 17703 15865 224208 Circulation 2005 2006 Current Year 28242 26160 22436 28259 27898 132995 2004-2005 26895 25032 23204 29526 27764 350716 2003-2004 25571 20978 22413 27290 26474 330171 2002-2003 28599 23345 20787 27465 21411 318820 FY 2005-2006 Statistics Children's Programs Annual Total Attendance 872 507 718 375 649 3121 Programs 2 1 2 0 3 8 StoryTime 20 18 12 16 10 76 Other {Tour, Movies, Cra 1 4 0 0 0 5 After School Programs 4 3 0 2 4 9 Other Services ILL Ordered 40 41 30 52 43 206 ILL filled 39 27 27 43 31 167 Lg Print Circuit 200 200 200 200 200 1000 Internet usage (persons) 3721 2940 2479 3152 3109 15401 Reference Transactions 693 1191 1161 938 938 4921 . Box 409 Georgetown, TX 78626-0409 2006 Application for Boards & Commissions Dear Mayor and City Council members, RECER, CITY SECRV 24 Dec 2005 I am seeking an opportunity to contribute to my new community while leveraging my experience and education in literature and culture. Your open positions in the Library Advisory Board as well as the Arts and Culture Board would provide me the chance to offer a unique perspective to Georgetown. In 2003 I graduated from the University of Leipzig in Germany. The focus of my studies was on literature and culture. In my studies I also learned practical business skills in public relations and marketing communications, of which I further developed practical knowledge through work in different enterprises. In these roles I collected experience organising events, handling customer inquiries and working together with others to realise projects in a timely manner. In addition to my professional experience and education, I also offer my enthusiasm for culture, whether it be theatre, literature or festivals. My European background should be able to offer different perspectives, which should enhance the offerings of Georgetown to its citizens and visitors. I am looking forward to discussing the openings with you and can make myself available at your convenience for an interview.
