Library Advisory Board
Of Georgetown, Texas
December 8, 2008

David Ciambrone, Glenn. Mautner, Gerald Sensabaugh, and Linda Nix
ABSENT: None
STAFF IN ATTENDENCE • Eric Lashley, Library Director; Linda Nolte, Library
Assistant--Temp/On Ca11
OTHERS IN ATTENDENCE• Judy Johnston (CTLS Lay Representative)
MINUTES •
The meeting was called to order by Chair Linda Nix at 6:30 PM. Gerald Sensabaugh
noted a few typographical errors in the minutes. The errors were corrected and Gerald
made the motion to accept the minutes as corrected and Marisue Miller seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Director Lashley reported that circulation was up for the month of November, but the
attendance was slightly down. Eric reported that the Friends of the Library's author
event featuring Joe Nick Patoski was very successful with over 100 in attendance.
Eric reminded the Board that the Friends will be having a book sale on January 23-24 in
the Community Rooms. Gerald asked why the Friends were having a big book sale,
since it was stated in the past that with the Second Hand Prose used book store the
Friends didn't feel the need to have an annual large book sale. Eric mfoinied the Board
that due to a large weeding project by library staff members, Second Hand Prose would
be unable to handle the volume of withdrawals. Therefore it was decided to have one
large sale to dispense the large volume of books in a short period of time.
Eric noted the success of the new Music! Live @ the Library program. He also reminded
the Board members to vote for the best gingerbread houses.
Enc infouned the Board that a number of walls would be repainted in the Library due to
normal wear and tear in a public building.
CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING:
Introduction of Board Member, Gerald Sensabaugh: Gerald is a graduate of
Southern Methodist University and did post -graduate work at the University of
Minnesota*. Gerald was a career officer in the United States Air Force and was
stationed all over the world. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a
consultant. He and his wife Betty Ann* moved to Georgetown in 1992. Gerald
became involved as a volunteer with a number of organizations including: the
Caring Place, the Police Department's Citizens Advisory organization, the
Library Advisory Board, the Citizen Bond Committee, the Ethics Commission,
Georgetown Visitor Center, and income tax assistance. (*corrected by Mr.
Sensabaugh at the 1-12-09 Library Board meeting.)
• Introduction of Staff Member, Linda Nolte: Linda is a Library Assistant —
Temp/On Ca11. Linda has lived in Georgetown for 3 years Before coming to
Georgetown, Linda worked at the Carrollton Public Library in Carrollton, TX.
She enjoys working part-time and enjoys working in a new library.
• Update on Writer's College, David Ciambrone: David reported that the
Writer's College has gone extremely well. Organizers did have a misstep when
they failed to assign an author for the session entitled, ' Author in Residence".
The session would allow students a chance to ask questions of an author one-on-
one. A number of people asked about this session, but no author was available for
assistance.
• Report on CTLS Technology Conference, Judy Johnston Judy reported on
the Exploring Technology Conference held at our library on November 14. Judy
stated that the conference was well attended and that attendees learned about
technology trends in libraries, social networking, gaming software and the 23
Things program. The classroom was converted into a technology petting zoo in
which participants could test a number of web sites, programs, and software
▪ Review of the Long -Range Plan, Eric Lashley Eric distributed the latest
version of the Long -Range Plan. Gerald had a number of comments and
questions. After much discussion from Board members, Eric made numerous
notes and will be sending out a revised draft of the Long -Range Plan prior to the
January meeting. The Board plans on approving the plan at the January meeting.
• Public Hearing, Ethics Review Commission* Eric reported that the City
Secretary asked the all Advisory Boards be notified of potential changes to the
City's Ethics Ordinance. Board members are encouraged to participate.
Chair Linda Nix adjourned the meeting at 8:05 PM.
Respectfully submi d

account for about one-third of our checkouts.

Bella Corda provided a guitar concert and on November 23 the Southwestern Flute
Ensemble performed. These concerts were funded by a grant from Pedernales Electric
Cooperative.
• The Williamson County Art Guild had a month -long display in the galleries on the bridge
and in the west wing hallway.
• Volunteers completed three of the individual oral history interviews for the desegregation
project.
• Joe Nick Patoski spoke on November 21 to an audience of about 100. He was the last in
the 2008 series of authors sponsored by the Friends of the Library. This series is a very
successful fund-raiser for the Friends.
STAFF
• Rosa Garcia and Kathleen Burnop attended a Ready to Read workshop in Buda on
November 5.
• Ralph Love gave a presentation about historical Williamson County to a group of
homeschooled children on November 13.

VOLUNTEERS
