January 2008 HIGHLIGHTS • Circulation and user traffic picked up considerably after the holidays. The total monthly circulation of more than 35,000 items approached the high levels of last spring and summer. • The Teen Advisory Board helped to move the teen area from the coffee shop side of the first floor stacks to the lobby side. They switched the young adult books with the videos and DVDs, which involved moving shelving as well as the collections. Other decorating changes are planned to make this area brighter and more inviting to young people. • The library's classroom and computers were busy many days during January while volunteers who work at various places in the area to provide free tax help were being trained. This year the library has dedicated four computers with printers for the tax advisors to use. • Several large meetings were held in the library meeting rooms during January. By mid - month the City had obtained permission from the County to use the lot at 81h and MLK for parking for special events and the library purchased signs that may be put up temporarily to direct people to the overflow lot. The lot was opened for two meetings later in the month and, for one of the meetings, the overflow lot was completely filled. STAFF • Eric Lashley attended a meeting of the CTLS long-range planning committee on January 10 and 11. The meeting was held in Salado. VOLUNTEERS As circulation and visitation increased during January, so did volunteer hours. Much of the increase in teen volunteer time was related to moving the teen area, and community service hours, which doubled from December, marked a return to more normal levels. Two new people joined the adult volunteer staff during January. Leslie Bradley continues to work on digitizing the Heritage Society photo collection. 11 GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Comparative Fiscal Year statistics 2007 2008 Oct Nov Dec Jan Annual Total Patron Visits Current Year 18694 24295 88573 2006-2007 22271 19035 14916 N/A** 202304 200-006 2332 17724 17784 21945 265219 2004-2005 21815 20831 10203* 21827 239469 Circulation 2007 2007 Current Year 31074 31938 30642 35279 128933 006-2007 28923 25337 24141 17259 386948 2005-006 28242 26160 22436 28259 348114 2004-2005 26895 25032 2204 296 350716 FY 2007-2008 Statistics Children's Programs Annual Total Attendance705 704 720 655 2784 Programs 3 2 1 6 , Story Time 13 12 14 21 60 Other (Tour, Movies, Crafts) 0 4 3 3 10 After School Programs 3 4 0 1 5 Other Services ILL Ordered 28 31 25 25 109 ILL filled 16 28 26 23 9 Lg Print Circuit 200 200 200 200 800 Internet usage (persons) 6501 6331 6166 7244 26242 Reference Transactions n/a n/a n1a n/a 0 Volunteer Hours Adult 391.00 797,75 571.50 567.65 2327,90 Teen 53.00 35.00 25.00 96.00 209.00 Community Service 33.00 72.25 68.00 133.50 306.75 Total 47T00 905.00 664.50 797A5 2843,65 Registrations City Residents -new 162 86 187 150 585 GISD Kids' Cards 6 9" 12 4 31 Non -residents -new 39 32 67 42 180 Total 207 17 266 16 796 Gash Receipts Fines/Misc.
