MINUTES •
The meeting was called to order by Chair Linda Nix at 6:30 p.m. Because there were no
comments on the February minutes, they were approved as distributed.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Director Lashley reported that circulation continues to rise over the previous year. Children's
programming attendance was up due to the local Head Start center participating in storytime on
Mondays.
Materials added to the collection were slightly down due to Jennifer Compton, Cataloging
Librarian, being out on maternity leave. The library has hired a temporary cataloger to help in the
interim.
Lashley informed the board that he had participated in the Library As Place symposium sponsored
by the Austin chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Central Texas Library
System on March 6tn
The library will be partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Georgetown to bring library
programming to the club located in the Stonehaven apartment complex.
The Teen Advisory Board has been working to create a separate teen area on the first floor. They
have painted the walls and have ordered rugs and booth seating.
The library has ordered a welcome desk that will be used in the lobby. The desk will be manned
by volunteers that will direct patrons to events or locations within the library.
A committee to start an oral history project is being formed. The purpose of the committee is to
determine the scope of the project and to prioritize those in the community that need to be
interviewed.
Steven Saylor s book, A Twist at the End , was chosen as the fourth annual Georgetown Reads!
selection. Richard Groves, the Adult Services Librarian, will be scheduling events around the
book in March and April.
The Georgetown Heritage Society's historic photo collection has been digitized and will be
available on the library's web site soon.
CONSIDERATION OF AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING:
• After the director's report, the Library Director discussed the role of the Library Advisory
Board. A discussion ensued concerning the differences between the Library Advisory
Board, Friends of the Library, and the Library Foundation. The benefits of the Central
Texas Library System and the State Library were also discussed.
■ The library's budget for FY 07/08 was discussed and it was noted that the majority of the
library's budget was for Personnel.
• Linda Nix explained to the new board members that each meeting would have a time when
a staff member and a board member would introduce themselves and talk about why they
were interested in libraries. Library Director, Eric Lashley described his work at the
library and gave a brief history of the library.
• Linda Nix nominated Ruth Anne Mallory to be Vice Chair. The motion was seconded
by Gerald Sensabaugh and Mallory was elected unanimously. Shana Nichols
volunteered to be secretary and was approved by the board.
■ Gerald Sensabaugh volunteered to serve a one year term in order to create staggered terms
on the board. Gerald's term will expire in February 2009, but he may reapply for the board
for an additional term.
• The library is continuing plans for a joint bookmobile with the Georgetown Independent
School District.
■ Ruth Anne Mallory and Linda Nix reported on the progress of the Library's Technology
Advisory Committee. They encouraged the board members to look at the library's web
site and then complete a user survey on the front page of the site.
Chairperson Linda Nix adjourned the meeting at 7:50 PM.
Respectfully submitted,

DIRECTOR'S'MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
February 2008
HIGHLIGHTS
• The Mardi Gras celebration on February 2 was well attended. Ms. Rosa said that many of
the people who participated did not come to the library specifically for the event, but found
it interesting enough to extend their stay at the library to enjoy the entertainment, children's
activities, and food.
• Attendance at the Friends' author event on February 7, featuring Ben Rehder, was close to
being the largest yet. Rehder's presentation was humorous and very entertaining.
• The Teen Advisory Board continued to work on creating an appealing teen area on the first
floor by changing the wall color from gold to red.
• Approximately 300 people voted in the Georgetown Reads! selection process. A Twist at
the End, by Steven Saylor, received the most votes. Library programming for Georgetown
Reads! 2008 will begin late in March.
STAFF
• On February 12 Gretchen Pruett and Sally Bernier traveled to Temple to attend a CTLS-
sponsored personnel management workshop.
• On February 14 Eric Lashley attended a meeting in Austin to finalize the program for the
library planning and construction workshop, to be held on March 6, that is sponsored by
CTLS.
• Suzette Davidson and Rita Kirkpatrick attended a 2-day (February 14 & 15) Amigos -
sponsored workshop in Austin about interlibrary loans.
• On February 27 Eric Lashley and Rosa Garcia met with the director of Georgetown's
Boys and Girls Club to discuss opportunities for shared programming.
VOLUNTEERS
Leslie Bradley has completed digitizing the Heritage Society photo collection and is now
working on the way it will appear on the library's web page.
After extended health -related absences, Leo Hamilton, a retired librarian who helps with
our original cataloging, and Bernie Baumbach, a retired sociology professor who is
indexing the City Council minutes from the 19th and early 20th centuries, were back at work.

Subject: Letter of Interest, Volunteer
JAN 1 1 2008
CITY
As indicated on the enclosed application, I am interested in volunteering to serve on the Library
Advisory Board. I believe that my background experience would be useful to that body. I retired
in August, 2007, and moved to Georgetown. Since I have been here I have been a happy user of
the library, a donor of books and a member of the Friends of the Georgetown Library.
When I resided in Brookfield, Illinois, I was elected to the Library Board of Directors and served
on the finance committee. The committee was responsible for budgets and any related proposals
for tax levies that might be needed. As a Board we held monthly public meetings, set policy and
advised the chief librarian. I left that post, and Brookfield, when I married and moved to the
town where my new wife lived.
For the past twelve years I have been an adjunct professor at National -Louis University, in
( Chicago, Illinois. I taught undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Management
and Business. From this experience I was able to continue my awareness of the library as a
resource for research, for the projects I assigned to my students. In the past year I also became an
adjunct professor for the Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. There I taught
graduate students in the Master of Business degree program. Again, my students used the library,
both personally and on-line, to complete their papers and other projects.
In my`day jol3'I was the national head of human resources for a billion dollar plus real estate
investment and management firm based in Chicago. In the HR role I was involved in learning
and training. I have experience in budgets and financial reporting. My educational background
includes Bachelor and Master of Business degrees and a Master of Adult Education degree. My
combination of business skills and education and my education background could be very useful
to the Library Advisory Board.
Thank you for reviewing my application. I look forward to becoming a part of the Georgetown
Library Advisory Board.
Cordially,
Glenn R. Mautner

Dear sir:
Marisue C. Miller

January 10, 2008
I am a volunteer at the Georgetown Public Library and would
be most pleased to serve on the Library Advisory Board. The
Director, Mr. Eric Lashley, has recommended I apply.
My prior related experience in the Austin Independent School
District included high school staff positions in a library and in
student counseling. Additionally, I have volunteered for a
number of years in a Texas small town's public library.
Upon our relocation to Georgetown, my husband and I have
thoroughly enjoyed volunteering in the library here. We find it
and the community itself both forward looking and are delighted
to be members. The city has much to be proud of and the library
is an outstanding feature of its progress.
Overall, I would enjoy serving on the Library Advisory Board
and would seek to contribute as best my experience might assist.
Sincerely,
Marisue C. Miller
