Richard is the adult services librarian and has assumed many of Gretchen Pruett's responsibilities. Besides working at the circulation and reference desks, Richard selects adult non-fiction materials, provides adult programs, and manages use of the meeting rooms. • Installation of the new keyboards, monitors, and CPUs for the public computer access workstations was nearly complete by month end. The new monitors, a gift from Dell Corporation, are larger and the new keyboards simplify headphone use. • Five groups performed in the Music! Live @ the Library series during December. A grant from Pedernales Electric Cooperative made possible the appearances of the Southwestern University brass chamber group on December 4, the Hill Country Flute Ensemble on December 13, and a string trio, which included a harp, on December 17. • Don Snell's paintings filled the bridge and west hall galleries during December. His work drew many comments. • Volunteers conducted five more interviews in the desegregation project, bringing the total to eight. Interviews with the people who initially volunteered to participate should be finished during January. • Nearly 200 people attended a children's pajama party, Friday evening, December 19. Crafts, food, a children's talent show, and a magician kept everyone happily busy. STAFF • The Friends of the Library treated the staff to lunch from the Red Poppy on December 18. Two seatings allowed all of the staff to enjoy a one -hour break with members of the Friends. VOLUNTEERS Volunteers continue to be important in day-to-day operations, particularly during the holidays when many staff were taking vacation. December Comments Comment: I attend the baby storytime. I just observed today that the electrical plugs do not have safety covers. I enjoy Ms. Kathleen's storytime. Response: The outlets installed in the children's room look like a normal outlet, but in reality they are special outlets that will not allow an object to be stuck in just one of the slots. They were designed to protect children without having to have any exterior plugs or devices. Comment: Nice people Comment: This is the nicest library I've ever been in. If it's not employees talking so loud to any and everyone, it's kids running around without parents supervising, then there are teenagers acting up, people on cell phones and babies that cry, get loud, need diapers changes. What happened to a quiet library? Talking in loud vices and asking others to? Please do something!!! I* Comment: Provide The International Directory of Little Magazines and Small Presses 2008-2009 . by Len Fulton Comment: First of all, the library is excellent and the staff are courteous. However, I must complain about the cost of faxing. $1 for even a 1-800 free phone number is ridiculous. This is not a business entity, but rather a community library which is funded already by tax payers. To then double charge them is not right or fair. Response: The fax machine service is a service provided by the library similar to our photocopier and printing from our public computers that are somewhat self -funded. These services are actually paid for by the users of the services and not the taxpayers. Our public photocopier is paid directly from the funds generated from the users. The public printer was paid for by the Friends of the Library and the paper and toner are paid for by the users of the copier. Comment: I am a new patron ... what a blessing your library has been to me! Your auto -reminder of due dates (before due!) and ease of renewal online brought a "hiphiphorray!" to my day. *Note from director.- I did not have any written comments in December about the Don Snell art display, but I did have a number of very strong opinions given to me verbally. The complaints were often about the nudity and the dark nature of the paintings. 0 GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Comparative Fiscal Year Statistics 2008 2009 Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Annual Total Patron Visit Current Year 29997 2046 25586 7762 2007-2008 18694 24295 26951 25342 304799 2006-2007 22271 19035 14916 N/A** N/A** N/A** 202304 2005-2006 2322 1774 17784 21945 21506 23213 265219 Circulation 2008 2009 Current Year 38909 33986 " 33923 106818 2007-2008 31074 31938 30642 35279 34536 35492 431294 2006-2007 28923 25337 24141 179 32507 3602 386948 2005-2006 28242 26160 22436 28259 27898 31229 348114- FY 2008-2009 Statistics Children"s Programs Annual Total Attendance 1698 939 1104 3741 Programs 4 2 7 1 Story Time 21 10 13 53 Other {Tour, Movies, 1 3 0 4 After School Progran 0 0 0 0 Other Services ILL Ordered 32 27 23 82, ILL filled 25 20 16 61 Lg Print Circuit 200 200 200 600 Internet usage (persons) 7906 6565 7089 21560 Volunteer Hours Adult 688.25 584.25 634,50 1907.00 Teen 34.00 4.00 25.00 63.00 Community Service 118.00 173.25 15100 444.25 Total 840.25 761.50 81Z50 0.00 0.00 0:00 2414,25 Registrations City Residents -view ill 51 204 366 GISD Kids' Cards 8 13 8 29 Non -residents -new 26 23 39 88 Total 145 87 251 0 0 0 483 Dash Receipts Fines/Misc.
