DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
March 2009
HIGHLIGHTS
Spring Break made for lots of activity at the library. Children's activities included arts and
crafts on Tuesday, a talent show on Wednesday, and the annual tea party on Thursday.
Attendance at the tea party topped 300, the largest yet. Angels who made the tea such a
success were Angie Wright, who prepared and donated all of the food, and Sue Miller,
who created and donated the decorations for the tea table and fifty of the floral crowns the
little girls received. Taylor Weaver's music students provided professional quality
entertainment.
Just Desserts, a cello and accordion duo, performed in the Music! Live @ the Library
series on Sunday, March 29. Their world fusion music kept a captive audience.
The oral histories about desegregation in Georgetown are now available to listen to on the
library's website. Transcripts of the interviews are being added as they are completed.
The library website has a new feature —a running record that refreshes every few minutes
showing the titles of library materials that are being checked. You can click on a title and
go directly to the catalog to read more about any item or put it on reserve. Patrons seem to
like seeing what their neighbors have been reading.
STAFF
VOLUNTEERS
• Jerry Seay volunteered his woodworking skills to reinforce six of the bookcases in the
Texas History Room. Originally, all of the shelves in the bookcases were adjustable, which
allowed the sides to bow. Jerry installed a permanent shelf in each bookcase to stabilize
the sides.

Dennis Schoenborn
IT Director
Information Technology Department
February 10, 2009
Dear Mr. Schoenborn,
The Georgetown Public Library Advisory Board requested Eric Lashley, Library
Director, to investigate the possibility of gathering statistics on the usage of the free
wireless Internet connections provided at the Library. It is obvious there are a great
number of users in the library using the service on a daily basis. Board members are
curious to know how many patrons are using this service.
Eric reported he passed the Board's request to you and your staff and after researching
the issue, your department has selected a product that can monitor and collect statistics on
wireless Internet users. Eric also reported funds are not currently available to purchase
the software, but it would be advantageous for the Board to support any future budget
requests your department may make in regards to monitoring software.
The Library Advisory Board voted unanimously at the February 9, 2009 to support any
budget requests to purchase software or hardware to monitor the wireless Internet at the
Library. The Library Advisory Board appreciates you and your staffs efforts in
researching the various products. If there is anything else we can do to support this
project, please feel free to contact Eric Lashley.
Sincerely,
7
