DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT
® GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY
August 2009
HIGHLIGHTS
• Eliot Wilde, classical guitarist, performed in the Live Music series on Sunday, August 16.
The next week a very complimentary comment from someone who heard him play
appeared on the City website. Staff reported a packed house and most people stayed for
the entire concert.
The Friends of the Library gave the library $6300 for five library tables and ten chairs,
which will be placed along the east wall of the main room on the second floor. People have
been asking for more quiet areas in which to study and this furniture is intended to create
that kind of space. The furniture has been ordered but hasn't arrived yet.
Due to the increasing number of requests for proctoring services, the library adopted a
policy of proctoring only for persons who have been members of the library for at least
three months.
The Georgetown Library Foundation began advertising its Georgetown Learns program.
STAFF
• Jesika Dendy joined the staff for an 8-week stint as a library intern. She is participating in a
Texas Workforce program.
• On August 21 Eric Lashley attended a meeting of the Long Range Planning Committee of
CTLS. Having served on this committee since it was formed, he submitted his resignation,
hoping that someone with more direct experience with running a non-profit might be
appointed.
• Eric Lashley, Rosa Garcia, Richard Groves, Laura Evans, and Bethni King traveled to
the Temple Public Library on August 28 to discuss their bookmobile operation with the
librarians there. The Friends of the Library have expressed interest in funding a bookmobile
for our library.
VOLUNTEERS
• A letter went out to all current volunteers, seeking their permission to submit their names for
criminal background checks. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and prompt.
There were no patron comments during August
