D. Consideration of and possible action on
1. Outcome of City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 25 and Board's access to City funding.
Eric Lashley reported that the final outcome of the Council's discussion and voting was that the
Board would receive'/4% of the general fund budget in FY 2007-08 and 2% of future CIP
projects that are deemed appropriate for public art. The'/4% will amount to about $70,000.
Ruth Roberts asked how long the Board would have to wait before approaching the Council
again with the 2% of all CIPs proposition. Eric said he thought it would take doing some
projects that Council andthe community recognize as worthwhile before Council would
consider expanding funding to a. percentage of all CIPs Eric also said that the Board could start
planning how to spend next year's 1/4% funding and to have a project ready to go on October 1,
2007.
Addie Busfield passed out copies of an article from ADArt Notebook, which she said provides
strong arguments for public art.
Paul Gaffney suggested that the Board needs to be visible during the CIP designation process
and should tell Council which projects are appropriate instead of waiting for Council to make
that decision. Eric said that staff will try to keep a close eye on the CIP process and make sure
that the Board knows when Council is discussing the upcoming projects.
